4th of July and Firecracker tournament

Caden played in the Firecracker baseball tournament over the 4th of July weekend.  Copper Hills represented with two teams.  Caden played with his sophmore team.  On Friday July 1st we were scheduled to play in Kamas.  Dustin had to work the weekend and was disappointed to be missing the games.
We were lucky to have good weather so my friend Jen (another baseball mom) and I decided to bring our canopies and pack a picnic for the day.  Carlin brought her friend Bailey and we made a day of it.  It was a lot of fun!
The team had to play two games that day.  Our first game we played South Summit Academy and won 26-1.  Our next game we played the Dixie Indians and lost 8-6.

MOM! Don't take my picture!

On Saturday July 2nd we were scheduled to play in our area so the games were close to home.  Our first game we lost to Lonepeak 7 to 1.  Our next game we played Morgan and won 15 to 2.
So what to do!  Each day we lost one and won one so we weren't sure how we would come out in the bracket to play on Monday for the playoffs.  There are so many rules about what determines the standings - it is confusing.
To our surprise we ended up being the wildcard #8 seed and went to the tournament on Monday July 4th.  This playoff day would be single elimination.  If we lost, we were out.  If we won we would go on to the next game.   Per our Freeze family tradition of going to the Murray Parade, Carlin and I went to the Parade while Caden went to his first game starting at 9 am back up in Kamas.

To our even bigger surprise they ended up winning the #1 Seed team – The Utah Dingers 3 to 2!!! So after the parade, Carlin and I drove back up to Kamas for their next game at 1 pm.  My Mom and Dad also drove up to watch them play.
The other Copper Hills team had won their first game of the day so both Copper Hills team played each other.  We played against the JV team and we won 6 to 3.  What a game!  It was so exciting to have Copper Hills represented so well having both teams playing that day!
We went from starting as the #8 seed to ending up playing in the championship game, at 6 pm, against the Las Vegas Spartans.  Talk about a long day of baseball but we were excited and they were ready to play.  We all hopped in the car and drove to Park City High School to play on that field.  The weather had been so nice all weekend and not too hot!
The boys played great!  We had alot of hits but couldn't score as much as we wanted to plus we had a few errors.  We ended up losing 5 to 4 taking second place!  Not too shabby for their first time representing Copper Hills!  Awesome job boys!

Even after a long day of playing we had to go have some fun for the 4th of July!!  We drove to Murray Park to meet up with my brother Matt and sister Tara and their families to watch the fireworks!  A fun end to a great day!
